Rabbi Shimberg has long used her ears to listen, her voice to speak out, her eyes witness, and her body to show up for social and environmental justice. Whether on her own or as a part of large and small coalitions of individuals, this work and the important work of being an ally have been formative in her rabbinistry. Rabbi Jessica is a frequent speaker invited to address community groups, students in high school, college, and theological seminaries, gatherings in the streets and at churches and mosques. The sacred role of clergy to afflict the comfortable as well as comfort the afflicted is one that Rabbi Jessica takes very seriously. Issues about which Rabbi Shimberg speaks passionately, weaving together Jewish and secular themes and values:

  • Food Justice

  • Immigration Reform

  • Sanctuary

  • Refugee Resettlement

  • Welcoming Immigrants

  • Institutional Racism

  • Reproductive Freedom

  • Health Care Reform

  • Climate Crisis and Environmentalism

  • Marriage Equality
